A worker who jumped from an out of control piece of heavy machinery on a construction site suffered multiple injuries from the impact to his pelvis, back and neck and was flown to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition.
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the construction site on East Coast Rd, near Okura, in north Auckland, at 11.22am on Sunday.
After landing and liaising with St John staff at the scene, crew conducted a “hot off-load”, with rotors still running, for a male patient in his 20s.
The man is believed to have lost control of a digger and then jumped from it, landing on the exposed clay of the development.
Worksafe is looking into whether the accident has been reported.
