Five teenagers in a stolen car were arrested on Sunday following a police pursuit.
Acting Sergeant Craig O’Doherty said the teens, aged between 15-16 years, are alleged to have stolen a car from a property in Merrilands in New Plymouth before driving to Stratford.
The stolen car was abandoned there and another vehicle was taken by the group, which was a mix of boys and girls, O’Doherty said.
The teenagers were stopped by police in Waitotara about 2.30am after a short pursuit, he said.
Three of the youth were released on bail, but two are behind bars and will appear in court on Monday.
He said all five face charges of either unlawfully taking a vehicle, or unlawfully being in a vehicle.
