About 500 single New Zealanders are already members of the FarmersMatch dating service which has only been going since March.

Founder Derek Ma said the app could bring together single people with a love of the country.

“It is the first global farming dating app and there are nearly equal numbers of females and males on the app,” said Silicon Valley-based Ma  in California

In less than a year the service had gained more than 316,000 members and led to over one million matches.

Ma said members came from all over the world, including Down Under.

“In New Zealand we have 290 females and 185 males, and in Australia, 4216 females and 1182 males.”

Ma had been working for a niche dating service for more than six years and his rural background drove him to help single people find a rural connection.

“At heart, I am a country guy. I grew up on a farm and continued to enjoy rural life and country values.”

He said his dream was to meet a great country woman.

Ma said none of the dating apps worked and while some were not well-designed, others had annoying third-party ads or were plagued by crashes and glitches.

“But don’t country singles deserve a great dating app too? I recognised this need and within five months, FarmersMatch was born and launched on Apple Store.”

He said FarmersMatch had a similar feature like Tinder.

“Just swipe left to pass and swipe right when you see a good match. To help you narrow your search, FarmersMatch has developed filters that can even help you pre-screen the profiles you see on your screen.”

Ma said FarmersMatch was designed to respond to the needs and values of country singles.

“That makes it the premium dating app just for farmers, ranchers, cowboys or girls, animal lovers, people who live in the country, and anyone else who shares country folks’ traditional and down-to-earth values. Best of all, it’s easy to use.

” When you live in a rural area, meeting people can be a challenge. Generally, farmers live in small communities where everybody already knows everybody. Let’s face it, the sparks don’t always fly with people you’ve known all your life and people on farms are busy.”

He said most rural areas finally had access to high-speed Internet today and the percentage of country people using mobile technology was rising each month.

Rural daters provide information, including gender, age, region, email address and a photo.

“After signing up, users just need to swipe to like or dislike for recommended matches. If you’re matched with or messaged by other members, FarmersMatch lets you know.”

Ma said with FarmersMatch and a smartphone, country single people could meet potential partners any where and any time.

“Whether you’re in your truck, on a tractor or on a horse, you can be scrolling through potential matches. Who knows? You may even meet your future partner in life.”

He said the app has no scammers and spammers.

“All profiles will not be active until we have approved them. Scammers are removed immediately. In addition, users are able to report fake profiles to us. Each day, FarmersMatch removes any new members that have been confirmed as fake users. That’s how we guarantee that all the members on our app are authentic country singles.”
