Police seek public help to crack down on vandals

Police are working to identify vandals after a small increase in graffiti in Orewa and Silverdale.

Taggers were caught by security cameras in Flexman Pl, Silverdale, leaving their mark on the roller doors at Pitt Stop on April 5, around 5.30pm.

Police are hoping someone will recognise the people in the footage and help with their enquiries so the vandals can be brought to justice, Acting Inspector Jason Homan said.

“I am sure someone will recognise these guys.

“We will find out who these people are and make them accountable for their actions,” Homan said.

Decent hard-working people don’t deserve to have their businesses or private property defaced by total strangers, he said.

“It is ugly, costs hard -earned money to remove, and we take a hard line on this behaviour.”

If caught, police will seek reparation costs for the removal of the paint when the taggers appear in court, he said.

Anyone with information that can assist police to identify them can contact Constable Lucy Field of the Orewa Police Station on 09 426 4555.

Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
