A teenager who allegedly told police she had been abducted for sex has been charged with making a false statement.
The 17-year-old was granted name suppression when she appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday.
Police said the teenager claimed she had been kidnapped in Spreydon, Christchurch, about 5.20pm on April 16.
The charge alleges the young woman made a statement before an officer on April 17, namely a report of abduction for sex, which would amount to perjury if made on oath in a judicial proceeding.
The woman now lives in Auckland and flew to Christchurch for Wednesday’s initial court appearance, and to apply for the case to be transferred.
She will next appear in the North Shore District Court on May 17.
