Police hunting for two people after armed TAB robbery

Police are hunting two people after an armed robbery in Mt Albert, Auckland.

Inspector Kerry Watson said the robbery occurred around 6pm on Sunday at the Mount Albert TAB on New North Road.

Two people entered the TAB with firearms, Watson said, and fled the scene in a light-coloured four-door sedan.

“While leaving, the rear window of the vehicle was smashed by a member of the public.”

“The car travelled down New North Road towards the city and Police are seeking sightings of the vehicle.”

Inspector Kerry Watson said Police had increased patrols in the area and were “focussed on apprehending these two individuals”.

The last incident at the same Mt Albert TAB in 2011 involved four people, three of them armed. They left in a stolen vehicle.

In October of last year three people were arrested after the armed robbery of a TAB in New Plymouth.

And in August 2016 one person jumped over the counter of a TAB in Te Awamutu armed with a weapon.

Watson asked witnesses to the Sunday evening robbery to call Auckland Central Police Station on 09 302 6400.

“Any sightings of the vehicle should be reported to 111.”
