Plunket to try out the other side of the Broadcasting Standards Authority

Broadcaster Sean Plunket has been the subject of complaints to the Broadcasting Standards Authority – now he’s going to sit in judgement of other broadcasters.

The authority has confirmed he will start a three-year term on October 1.

That has raised eyebrows in some parts of the media industry – particularly because Plunket has taken a combative stance on social media towards other journalists and commentators, while working as the communications director for The Opportunities Party in the recent political campaign.

In 2015, the authority rejected two complaints about Plunket calling author Eleanor Catton an “ungrateful hua” for criticising the New Zealand government.
