A man accused of killing his wife at Easter has appeared in court.
The 56-year-old man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – appeared at the Rotorua District Court via video link on Wednesday on a charge of murder.
The charge relates to the fatal stabbing of a woman at Five Mile Bay, near Taupo, on Saturday.
The 58-year-old woman was flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition where she later died.
No pleas were made and the man was remanded in custody until his next appearance at the High Court in Rotorua on May 10.
A psychiatric report was ordered.
A well as the defendants name, Judge Marie McKenzie also suppressed the initial summary of facts around the case.
