A man was taken to Christchurch Hospital after an apparent road rage incident, only to be arrested for assaulting hospital security.
Police were called to reports of a man kicking another man in the head following a car crash on Tilford St, Woolston, about 10.45pm on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.
About 10 people were gathered at the crash site near Linwood Ave, and several vehicles left the scene quickly when police arrived.
“What followed was a stream of inconsistent stories from [the vehicle’s] occupants,” the spokesman said.
A man was taken by ambulance to Christchurch Hospital with moderate injuries, a St John spokesman said.
It was unclear whether the man taken to hospital was the one being kicked or the one doing the kicking, police said.
A Christchurch District Health Board spokeswoman said the man “lashed out” at hospital security on arrival.
“They punched or pushed a security guard and were arrested,” she said.
“He was intoxicated.”
Police confirmed the man was arrested, but were unable to say what he was charged with.
“In a case like this, a person would have been bailed to reappear,” a police spokesman said.
