Fonterra is changing the branding on its Kapiti premium milk range, ending a dispute with Lewis Road Creamery over the similarity of the labels.
Neither party would discuss details of how the resolution was reached but both were pleased the argument was over. Fonterra confirmed new Kapiti labels will be released in June.
They have been arguing since November over the similarity of labelling on Fonterra’s new Kapiti premium milk range to Lewis Road bottles.
Lewis Road claimed Fonterra had copied its cow picture packaging in an attempt to confuse shoppers with it released its Kapiti premium milk range. It filed three legal claims, all of which were rejected by Fonterra.
Fonterra said a cow was a simple, and commonly used, visual cue used on premium milk products and that the rest of the packaging was in line with the Kapiti range of cheeses and ice creams.
