Cigarettes and cash taken in two robberies at a south Auckland Caltex

A south Auckland service station has been robbed twice in the same month.

The Caltex on Great South Road, Otahuhu had its night pay window smashed in during the early hours of Thursday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander says a stolen silver Subaru Forester pulled into the service station at about 4.46am.

The offenders smashed the window using a rock, with two offenders climbing inside.

“The other two offenders stayed outside and were handed cigarettes and other items by the offenders inside, ferrying them to the car,” Alexander says.

Leaving in the car, offenders made off with cigarettes, money and a till.

Police are seeking information about possible sightings of the car, stolen from Mangere East at about 11pm on April 19, with the registration EJA65.

But it wasn’t the first time the Caltex has been robbed this month.

On April 2, a silver station wagon entered the forecourt of the service station at about 11.30pm.

A tire jack, among other items, was then used by four offenders to smash their way into the store.

Fearing for his safety, a night attendant fled to the back of the store, Alexander says.

The offenders made off with cigarettes.

Alexander says the Counties Manukau major crime team is investing the two robberies.

So far police have carried out scene examinations, obtained CCTV footage and taken witness statements.

The forecourt was closed on Thursday as staff cleaned up the mess. There were no reported injuries.

Anyone with information on either robbery or the stolen silver Subaru Forester, registration EJA65, can contact Detective Senior Sergeant Albie Alexander on 09 261 1300 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
