Abandoned car set on fire in public park

A car was stripped for parts before being abandoned in a public park and set on fire.

The Palmerston North Fire Brigade was called to the blaze at Paneiri Park at 3am on Wednesday.

Station officer Chris Faithfull said the car had been stripped for parts and did not have an engine, seats, or a number plate.

“It was definitely set alight. Someone towed it there.”

Faithfull said the blaze was still going when the crew arrived, but there wasn’t much of the car left to burn.
